Course Description: Bomba Dance Classes

Bomba is a traditional folkloric dance and music style that originates from Puerto Rico. It is one of the island's oldest music genres, deeply rooted in the African heritage brought by enslaved Africans. Bomba is characterized by its energetic rhythms, call-and-response singing, and the dynamic interaction between dancers and drummers.

Bomba I (Ages 7-12)

Semester: Fall '24 and Spring '25
Class Schedule: Saturdays, Time TBA

Course Overview: Dive into the vibrant world of Bomba with our Bomba 1 class, tailored for young dancers ages 7-12. This course offers a fun and educational introduction to the traditional Puerto Rican dance, focusing on foundational skills and cultural appreciation.

Bomba 2 (Ages 13+)

Semester: Fall '24 and Spring '25
Class Schedule: Saturdays, Time TBA

Course Overview: Step into the advanced rhythms and deeper cultural understanding of Bomba with our Bomba 2 class, designed for teens and adults ages 13 and up. This course builds on foundational skills, introducing more complex techniques and historical insights.

Learning Outcomes: Students will:

• Execute Bomba rhythms and complex dance movements.

• Perform detailed Bomba choreography with confidence.

• Deepen their understanding of Bomba’s cultural and historical context.

• Demonstrate proper Batey etiquette in all dance practices.
